What's the difference between executive search and standard recruitment?

Standard recruitment fills a defined role from active applicants. Executive search is proactive: we identify and approach specific people who aren't necessarily job-hunting, based on their track record in a relevant industry or function. Alexander James offers both, depending on the seniority and scarcity of the role.

What industries and functions does Alexander James recruit for?

We specialise in the following areas: Accounting & Finance, Construction, Engineering & Property, Digital, Data & Technology and Supply Chain & Procurement, alongside dedicated executive search across all of these.

Where is Alexander James based, and what areas do you cover?

We're based in Auckland, have an office in Wellington and work with clients and candidates across New Zealand.

How long has Alexander James been operating?

Alexander James has been placing candidates in New Zealand since 2011. Alexander James' directors have been in recruitment for over two decades, while every consultant and candidate manager brings a wealth of recruitment experience to their individual roles.

Is there a fee for candidates using Alexander James?

There is no fee for candidates to apply for jobs with Alexander James, or work with consultants to find a role that fits.

How long does the recruitment process typically take?

The recruitment process varies between roles. Contractor roles are generally placed faster to fill an urgent need within an organisation. Permanent roles take slightly more time to place, the timeframes of which are discussed by the consultant responsible for placing the role.

How do I apply for a role or register my interest?

Candidates can browse current vacancies on our Jobs page or submit their CV directly through our Candidates page. We also welcome speculative approaches from people not actively job-hunting who want to be considered for future opportunities.

Does Alexander James handle contract and temporary placements, or only permanent roles?

Yes, we place both permanent and contract/fixed term roles.

How is Alexander James rated by clients and candidates?

Alexander James holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating from 330+ reviews on Seek based on feedback from both clients and candidates we've placed.

What is Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO), and does Alexander James offer it?

RPO is where a business outsources some or all of its recruitment function to an external partner, rather than running it entirely in-house. Alexander James offers RPO services for businesses that want ongoing recruitment support without building a full internal team, see our Recruitment Process Outsourcing page for details.

How confidential is an executive search?

Executive search assignments are handled discreetly, candidates are approached individually and confidentially.
