The Business

This large-scale, fast-paced New Zealand business plays a key role in keeping the country connected, delivering telecommunications infrastructure, network construction, ICT solutions and essential services nationwide.
With a substantial national footprint and a diverse portfolio of complex infrastructure and delivery projects, the business is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to lead the financial performance of its Project Delivery division.

The Opportunity

Reporting to a senior finance leader and managing a team of four, this is a hands-on, commercially focused role with responsibility for a $100m plus portfolio spanning major telecommunications and infrastructure projects, including mobile network builds, fibre infrastructure and network integration.
Working closely with the Chief Delivery Officer and Programme Leads, you'll play a key role in driving project profitability, improving financial visibility and addressing cost overruns across the portfolio.
This is a broad role combining technical project accounting, end-to-end financial management, commercial business partnering and people leadership. You'll need to be equally comfortable getting into the detail of project costs and WIP as you are presenting financial insights and challenging operational stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead end-to-end financial management of the Delivery portfolio, including month-end, P&L reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Oversee complex project accounting, WIP, contract costing, milestone-based revenue recognition (IFRS 15) and progress claims.
  • Monitor project profitability, cost-to-complete, margins and cost overruns, identifying risks and opportunities to improve performance.
  • Partner closely with senior operational leaders and Programme Leads, providing meaningful financial insights to support commercial decisions.
  • Improve financial reporting, forecasting accuracy, processes and controls to drive greater visibility and accountability.
  • Provide financial oversight of contract pricing, tenders, renewals and commercial opportunities.
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of four, maintaining high standards of delivery while building capability and engagement.
About You

You'll be an experienced Finance Manager, Commercial Finance Manager or Senior Finance Business Partner with a strong background in project-based construction, telecommunications, engineering or infrastructure environments.
Importantly, you'll understand the financial complexities of delivering large-scale projects and contracts, including revenue recognition, WIP, direct costs, project margins and forecasting.

We're looking for someone who brings:
  • Strong project accounting and contract costing experience, ideally within construction, civil infrastructure, engineering or telecommunications.
  • Sound technical knowledge of IFRS 15, WIP, milestone-based revenue recognition and project profitability.
  • Proven end-to-end financial management experience, including P&L ownership, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to partner with, influence and challenge senior operational stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with the ability to develop a team while maintaining accountability and delivery standards.
  • A hands-on, proactive approach, with the ability to move between financial detail and broader commercial strategy.
  • CA/CPA qualification or equivalent, with strong systems and financial modelling capability. Experience with Dynamics 365, Workbench or similar project management systems would be advantageous.
What's on Offer?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant project delivery portfolio within a well-established New Zealand business, with genuine scope to influence commercial performance, strengthen financial processes and develop a capable finance team.
You'll work closely with senior business leaders on complex, high-value infrastructure projects where your financial expertise and commercial input will make a tangible difference.

An attractive salary package of $150,000–$155,000 plus additional benefits, including medical and life insurance and staff concessions, is on offer.
