This Auckland-based technology business is in the middle of a large-scale re-platforming programme, rebuilding its core platform from the ground up using modern, cloud-native architecture. The work is greenfields and business-critical, focused on long-term scalability, reliability, and clean engineering foundations.
The engineering team has recently brought on two experienced Go engineers and is now adding a third senior engineer to help drive delivery and shape how Go is used across the platform. This is a 24-month fixed term contract with a genuine pathway to permanent employment as the platform and team continue to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain Go-based backend services as part of a modern microservices architecture
- Develop APIs and event-driven components that are secure, scalable, and easy to support
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design discussions with practical input
- Help define and uplift Go standards, patterns, and development practices
- Support and mentor other engineers, particularly those newer to Go
- Work closely with product, QA, and DevOps to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Ensure observability, performance, and maintainability are considered from the outset
- 5 + years experience building production systems in Go
- Experience designing and delivering distributed systems and APIs
- Solid understanding of microservices and event-driven architecture
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
- Comfortable contributing to technical direction and mentoring others
- Experience working in collaborative, product-focused engineering teams
- Exposure to GraphQL or search-based platforms
- Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Background in ecommerce, logistics, or high-volume transactional platforms
- A long-term contract role working on a full platform rebuild from scratch
