About the role
The Head of Category Management will report to the Commercial Director and provide strategic leadership for their allocated category. This senior role is responsible for shaping and delivering category strategies, driving a high-performing team, and leading transformational initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen relationships, and deliver ongoing value. A key focus will be on supplier and contract management, ensuring strong performance and collaboration.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and grow a category team, ensuring alignment with the commercial strategy.
- Develop and deliver category strategies that drive efficiency, innovation, and value.
- Oversee supplier relationship management, contract performance, and risk mitigation.
- Partner with senior leaders and the wider sector to leverage commercial benefits.
- Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity outcomes into category strategies.
- Champion sustainable procurement and ESG outcomes.
We’re looking for a senior commercial leader with:
- Experience in strategic category management, procurement, or commercial leadership within large, complex environments.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Proven track record in building strong supplier and stakeholder partnerships to deliver value.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with significant spend under management.
- Experience operating at a senior leadership level
- Commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and sustainable procurement practices.
