Our client, a prominent national asset in the fuel, energy and EV sector is seeking a Strategic Key Account Manager for the Wellington Region to embed themselves within a major client’s operations, fostering a high-value partnership that drives transformative initiatives. This critical role demands a commercially astute, relationship driven professional with a strategic mindset and an economics focused perspective. The Strategic Key Account Manager will engage at a boardroom level, cultivating collaborations that enhance market positioning, unlock new opportunities, and align with our client’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will ensure exceptional service delivery, long term growth, and measurable value creation for both organizations.
   
Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary strategic liaison, embedding within a major client’s operations to build trust based relationships with senior leadership, board members, and key stakeholders.
  • Identify and evaluate alliance opportunities that align with the client’s business objectives, driving growth and competitive advantage.
  • Develop and execute partnership frameworks and go-to-market strategies to deliver mutual value and strategic impact.
  • Analyse client needs through an economics lens, aligning solutions with service offerings and complex Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to optimize outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., sales, marketing, legal, and operations) and client stakeholders to operationalize partnerships and ensure seamless execution.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on the performance and return on investment (ROI) of strategic initiatives, ensuring continuous value creation.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and partner forums, strengthening the partnership ecosystem and brand presence.
  • Negotiate partnership terms, ensure contractual obligations are met, and drive initiatives that elevate client satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture, promoting innovation, team synergy, and a shared vision for success.
Skills Required
  • Proven expertise in strategic partnerships, key account management, business development and alliance management within critical infrastructure or related sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and an economics driven approach to decision-making.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and engage in a boardroom setting.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of building long term, value driven relationships and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence without authority, and embed within a client’s organization to drive collaborative success.
  • Analytical mindset with strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance reporting capabilities.
  • Articulate, professional, and intuitive demeanour, with a focus on driving innovation and growth.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, commerce, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating strategic, economic, and commercial acumen.
