This is an opportunity to work across critical fibre and telecommunications infrastructure, combining hands-on engineering with network design, operational improvements and technical leadership.
For the right person, there's also a clear opportunity to develop into a Principal Engineer position.
The opportunity:
You'll play an important role in the ongoing design, operation and improvement of a complex telecommunications network, working closely with technical specialists and senior leadership.
This isn't a purely operational support role or a high-level architecture position. We're looking for someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail, solving challenging problems and helping shape the future of the network.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, implementing and improving network infrastructure across core, transport and access environments.
- Supporting network operations, troubleshooting complex issues and providing senior technical escalation.
- Working across routing, switching, fibre access and telecommunications technologies.
- Supporting network upgrades, capacity planning, performance optimisation and resilience.
- Producing technical designs, documentation and engineering standards.
- Identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
- Working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver reliable network services.
You'll ideally bring a strong background in telecommunications, service provider or carrier-grade networking, with the ability to contribute technically from day one.
We're particularly interested in people with:
- Strong hands-on network engineering experience across design, implementation and operations.
- Experience with IP networking technologies including MPLS, BGP, OSPF and routing/switching.
- Exposure to fibre access networks, GPON/xPON or telecommunications transport infrastructure.
- Experience working with technologies such as VXLAN/EVPN, DWDM/CWDM or BNG/BRAS would be advantageous.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience resolving complex network issues.
- Experience producing technical documentation and contributing to network design decisions.
- The ability to work independently, collaborate with others and provide technical guidance.
You don't need to tick every box. We're open to speaking with experienced engineers who have a strong foundation in carrier networking and are keen to continue developing their technical expertise.
What's on offer?
- Career progression: Opportunity to grow into a Principal Engineer role.
- Technical ownership: Genuine involvement in network design and engineering decisions.
- Interesting technology: Work across complex fibre and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Long-term opportunity: Join an established organisation with ongoing investment in its network.
