This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who has built, scaled and operated real digital products in production. You’ll own engineering and architecture direction across a complex portfolio of global customer-facing platforms, while building high-performing teams and modernising how engineering gets done.
This is not a consulting or advisory role. We’re looking for a proven engineering operator who can set strategy, make decisions and own outcomes.
The Opportunity Sitting within the senior Digital leadership team, you’ll lead across B2B Engineering, Consumer Engineering and DevOps, with responsibility for engineering and architecture across a significant portfolio of digital products.
You’ll work closely with Product, Design and business leaders to translate ambitious growth objectives into scalable technology solutions.
Your remit will include:
- Setting and driving the overall engineering and product architecture strategy
- Leading and developing high-performing engineering teams and future leaders
- Driving architecture and platform modernisation
- Creating modular, composable and API-first platforms
- Improving scalability, reliability, security and platform reuse
- Driving cloud-native engineering practices
- Maturing CI/CD, DevOps and developer experience
- Building effective product + platform operating models and autonomous engineering teams
- Making pragmatic build-vs-buy and architecture decisions
- Introducing modern engineering measures including DORA, flow efficiency and customer impact
- Driving practical adoption of AI-enabled engineering, including AI-assisted development, testing, automation and agent-based workflows
- Partnering with senior Product, Design, Data, Security and business stakeholders
- Ensuring technology investment translates into measurable customer and commercial outcomes
You'll ideally bring:
- 15+ years' experience across software/product engineering
- 8+ years leading engineering teams
- Experience leading sizeable, complex engineering functions
- Strong technical and architecture capability
- Proven experience building and operating large-scale, highly available digital products
- Experience within a product organisation, rather than predominantly consulting/advisory environments
- Experience leading significant platform or architecture modernisation
- Strong cloud-native experience
- Experience across web, mobile, APIs and distributed applications
- Strong understanding of modern product-engineering operating models
- Experience improving engineering capability, culture and ways of working
- Executive-level communication and stakeholder management capability
- The ability to translate complex technology decisions into clear business and customer outcomes
Exposure to AWS, AI-enabled engineering, media/video technologies and modern data platforms would also be advantageous.
Who Will Thrive Here? You could currently be operating as a VP Engineering, Engineering Director, Head of Engineering, Head of Product Engineering, CTO or similar senior technology leader.
Your title matters less than what you've actually built.
You'll be someone who can move comfortably between an executive conversation about business strategy and a detailed discussion with engineers and architects about platform direction.
Most importantly, you'll be a builder and operator. You've led teams, made difficult technical decisions, modernised platforms and been accountable for what happens when software reaches production.
