This position will see you manage complex life, trauma, disability and income-protection applications while building trusted relationships with financial advisers. You will use strong risk assessment and commercial judgement to find appropriate solutions for customers within agreed underwriting guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to an experienced Underwriting Manager, you will:
- Assess complex life, trauma, total and permanent disability and income-protection applications
- Make quality underwriting decisions within your delegated authority
- Balance effective risk management with commercial and customer considerations
- Communicate application outcomes clearly to advisers and customers
- Work with reinsurers and medical specialists on complex or higher-value cases
- Develop strong relationships across key adviser networks
- Help progress pending applications within agreed service standards
- Support junior underwriters through coaching and guidance
- Contribute to training, process improvements and overall team performance
- At least three years’ senior-level life-insurance underwriting experience
- Strong experience across life, trauma, disability and income-protection products
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, conditions, treatments and prognosis
- The ability to interpret financial information when assessing income-protection and business-related applications
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to identify solutions within appropriate risk parameters
- Excellent adviser and customer relationship skills
- A collaborative approach and willingness to assist the wider team
- An ALUCA or other relevant insurance qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
