An opportunity has arisen within a large, nationally significant organisation undergoing transformation to build strategic commercial capability across a complex capital works and infrastructure portfolio. These roles sit within a central procurement and commercial function supporting major capital delivery programmes.
This is not a traditional procurement position.
It is an opportunity for experienced infrastructure professionals to apply their commercial and delivery knowledge in a broader, more strategic environment, influencing outcomes at scale rather than operating within a single project or contractor.
The Opportunity
As a Strategic Category Manager, you will:
- Lead category strategy across capital projects, professional services and infrastructure-related spend.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies that directly support project delivery.
- Negotiate and manage contracts of commercial significance.
- Drive supplier performance and long-term value realisation.
- Partner with operational, project and executive stakeholders.
- Lift commercial capability and influence behaviours across the organisation.
This role offers the chance to step out of project-by-project delivery and apply your expertise at a portfolio and system level.
Who This Could Suit
We are particularly interested in candidates who want to broaden their experience and apply their construction or infrastructure background in a new strategic focus.
You may currently be a:
- Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Commercial Manager
- Project Manager with strong commercial exposure
- Infrastructure or capital programme professional
What You Will Bring
- 8+ years’ experience in commercial, infrastructure or capital project environments.
- Strong contract negotiation and commercial governance capability.
- Working knowledge of delivery models such as ECI, D&C or alliance contracting.
- Ability to analyse markets and shape strategic sourcing approaches.
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and suppliers.
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
This is an opportunity to:
- Apply your commercial and delivery expertise in a broader, system-wide context
- Influence how major capital and infrastructure spend is structured nationally
- Develop deeper strategic category management capability
- Contribute to building a newly consolidated national function from the ground up
